Early Childhood Education: Exploring Learning Disabilities and Speech Disorders in Kurdish Toddlers
Abstract / پوختە / الملخص :
“For decades, most research in Iraqi Kurdistan has focused on university students, leaving a gap in the understanding of language disorders in Kurdish children, especially the pre-schools. This study aimed to fill this gap by examining factors that influence language development in Kurdish toddlers, especially those with learning and language disabilities. The study highlights the important role of several factors in helping children learn to speak during their formative years.
For the study, the researcher asked teachers from different primary schools in Sulaymaniya city; then later, the data was collected from them. The teachers who completed the questionnaire provided demographic information. Apart from them, some mothers participated in the interview portion too for the sake of accountability.
The results showed that preschool children benefited significantly from having their parents read stories. This practice has been shown to help improve language skills, especially the mother tongue. The study also highlighted the importance of active parental involvement in their child’s language development. In addition, the study explored the impact of gender on language acquisition. Finally, the study showed how cell phones can damage the acquisition of language at an early age.
One of the key findings was that children whose parents frequently named objects learned to speak faster. Parents’ involvement was found to be particularly beneficial in promoting their children’s language development, compared to children whose parents were less verbally involved.”
